My December 2013 Michigan Board of Education Testimony
In November 2013, I was asked if I would testify at the December 17, 2013, Michigan State Board of Education meeting. Michigan is considering emulating the New Orleans so-called model Recovery School District (RSD) (including the supposed “parental choice” afforded by open enrollment) as well as using letter grades for schools.
Since I could not be in Michigan on December 17, I provided the following five-minute video testimony.
Informing the Michigan board on three involved topics in only five minutes (the accorded time limit) proved to be quite a feat. That is why I have both my name and blog address prominently displayed in the background.
Forgive the facial expressions on the freeze frames. I have limited control over such technical matters.
I wanted to offer Michigan parents something more than just my five-minute snippet on RSD, open enrollment, and school letter grades. So, I filmed the following ten-minute supplement to my video testimony:
In the process I apparently scored some coolness points with my students for producing my own youtube videos.
