This is a fabulous post. It has many of the elements in Title II of ESSA. I know of at least one person who has acquired a Doctorate with no evident program of study anywhere. I recall having bookmarked a website that had tiers of prices for printed diplomas for a doctorate, master’ s or bachelor degree in some some exotic fields of study. The irony is that the education industry is setting up stackable badges, certificates, and other symbolic “certifications” of competence based on completing instructional modules. This idea is already part of the Relay Graduate School of Education’s program of teacher training.
When I was in engineering school, I disliked statistics. Now, I am going to have a PhD. in statistics. Modern ethics are so wonderful.
In a former profession I was a tribologist. When the 21st century came competency and results were not longer valued. Masters degrees did not sell stock. A companies roster needed doctorates in charge. That sold stock. I became a teacher.
If only I had known about this program back then, I could have joined some of my replacements in leading that benighted company straight into bankruptcy.
